Underrated, well-performed comedy from Fay Weldon's book (previously filmed as a British mini-series for television) about a common housewife who connives to get even with the self-absorbed romance novelist who stole her husband. Some of the jokes have a mean-spirited tone, but it was an interesting idea to have Roseanne Barr play.

'She-Devil' offers up a pretty simple story but it's one that is portrayed in an amusing and interesting manner. Meryl Streep, Roseanne Barr and Ed Begley Jr. all give top performances, in a film that lasts a brisk 90 or so minutes. Streep and Barr are the particular standouts, I enjoyed them from the beginning to the end.

None more so then 1989's "She-Devil." "She" manifested at the height of its star Meryl Streep's powers — post "Sophie's Choice," post-"Out of Africa." It was the actress's first comedic role, and for that talent foresight - there deserves to be a chorus of 'Praise Seidelman.'
